DSCHC Flags-off Diabetes and Hypertension Clinics in Delta State.

The Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC) has Flagged off its first Diabetes and Hypertension Clinic (DHC) today, 16th November, 2020 at Obior Healthcare Facility in Obior, Aniocha North LGA of the Delta State.

Three other Diabetes and Hypertension Clinics are also being established at Polobubo Healthcare Facility in Warri North LGA, Oporoza Healthcare Facility in Warri South West LGA and Ovwor-Olomu Healthcare Facility in Ughelli South LGA of the State.

The DHCs were established under a PPP program with SANOFI Aventis, a French Pharmaceutical Company. The partnership is geared towards enhancing the availability and quality of Diabetes and Hypertension management in rural communities in Delta State.

While speaking at the occasion, the DG/CEO of the DSCHC, Dr. Ben Nkechika said that the Diabetes and Hypertension Clinic was born out of sincere concern for the health of rural dwellers.

In his speech, the DG stated that the Benefit package of the State Health Insurance Scheme was designed to ensure that a ‘significant component of the prevailing healthcare challenges are covered. Those unable to afford payment for the Health Insurance Scheme are supported by the State Government under the Equity Health Plan. The DG further stated that through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, the Federal Government has added more funds to cater for the Poor and Vulnerable in the society.

The Obior Healthcare Facility in Aniocha North LGA, Polobubo Healthcare Facility in Warri North LGA, Oporoza Healthcare Facility in Warri South West LGA and Ovwor-Olomu Healthcare Facility in Ughelli South LGA of the State are part of the “Access to Finance” Facilities established by the DSCHC in Partnership with Pharmaccess Foundation and the Bank of Industry

In her opening address, the General Manager of SANOFI, Oliake Adejunu said that Delta State was selected for this support because it is the first State in the Country to operate the State Supported Health Insurance Scheme. The Scheme currently has over 790,000 Enrollees.

Amongst those present at the occasion were His Royal Majesty the Obi of Obior, Chief Benjamin Elue the former Deputy-Governor of Delta State, Chief Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, Chairman, Governing Board of the DSCHC, Mr. Chucks Osemeke Chairman Aniocha North LGA and Management of SANOFI Aventis Nigeria Limited.
